Explanatory Standard 6.8

Instructional Materials and Equipment

The school provides equipment that is well maintained, properly stored, age-appropriate, and easily accessible for student/teacher use, including:

  1. a variety of art materials available to all students, which include easels, paints, brushes, markers, crayons, clay, chalk, paste/glue scissors, construction paper, as well as books about art and artists.

  2. science equipment and materials, adequate for the needs of the instructional programs such as microscopes, scales, models, lab and supplies, aquarium/terrariums, animal cages and food, specimens, posters, as well as books on a variety of scientific subjects.

  3. indoor play equipment for early childhood programs, such as: transportation toys,
    blocks, wheeled toys, housekeeping furniture and articles, doll houses, manipulatives,
    games.

  4. music equipment and materials adequate for the needs of the instructional program such as pianos or keyboards, phonographs, tape or CD players, rhythm instruments, band instruments, records/tapes, music books, books on composers.

  5. physical education equipment adequate for the needs of the instructional and/or athletic programs, such as: various types and sizes of balls, scooters, jump ropes, hoola hoops, parachutes, equipment for soccer, baseball, basketball, track, football and other sports; physical fitness equipment; as well as gym apparatus, if a gymnasium is available.

  6. computer and technology equipment with adequate computers and software available
    for students to fulfill the school’s mission and educational objectives.
